Reasonable Accommodations Available in Disability Services

The role of Disability Services is to promote the full participation of persons with disability in the social, economic, educational and public policies. Such support and service programs are important means to achieve equality and integration. These include equal access of resources, equal training and development, equal opportunities in education, equal opportunity in employment, protection from discrimination based on disability and proper utilization of public facilities such as housing. They also help to build a stronger and more cohesive community at the local level. These are policies and institutions that provide support and service for persons with disabilities. These also serve as preventative measures to help prevent disability-related problems and to promote equal opportunities.

Reasonable Accommodations Available in Disability Services

Providers provide disability services to ensure that persons living with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else. Organizations, agencies, and organizations that provide disability services include those created by the federal or state governments, such as Medicaid and Social Security programs. Private companies may also be providers of disability services. The three main categories of disability services can be divided are:

Reasonable Accommodations Available in Disability Services

First, accommodations are available for people with psychiatric disabilities. These accommodations may include personalized instruction, institutional care, assisted outpatient treatment and services, and supportive housing. Second, there are accommodations for physically disabled persons. These include wheelchairs, walkers and artificial limbs. Thirdly, there are accommodations for those with cognitive or memory impairments or learning disabilities. These accommodations may include language training and adaptive equipment, education, job search assistance, job placement training, psychometric testing, residential or work unit adjustment, and job placement assistance.

Reasonable Accommodations Available in Disability Services

The primary responsibility of disability services is to ensure that people with disabilities have equal opportunities in finding employment. This responsibility includes ensuring people with disabilities have equal chances to find employment. The U.S. Department of Labor is not subject to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973’s section 504 which describes the requirements for accessibility. All workplaces must have at minimum one accessible workplace. Call centers and hospitals are two examples of employment that require special considerations.

Reasonable Accommodations Available in Disability Services

Be aware that accommodations for persons with disabilities are not included in employment practices as defined by the Fair Accommodation Act (FAA). Employers who require reasonable accommodations must give written notice to potential employees. A deaf employee must receive a copy of the notice and information on how to handle such accommodations if such notice is given.

There are three types or reasonable accommodations. The first category, absolute accommodations, include items that provide convenience, safety and comfort for the disabled person. Items in this category may include grab bars, grab handles, raised hand rails, wheelchair exit ramps, and other similar items. Items in the second category may be covered by reasonable accommodations, such as a Braille guide or similar item.

The third category of reasonable accommodations relates to a service that enhances the productivity or job performance of a person with disabilities. Modified duties, training opportunities, and other technology may all be considered reasonable accommodations. The qualified professional must prove that the services made it possible for a person who has a disability to do his or her job. A qualified professional must show that a person with disabilities can communicate with a company representative using sign language.

It is important to note that hiring individuals with disabilities, who require special consideration, can present challenges for both businesses and companies. Companies must develop policies that support their goal to provide reasonable accommodations for disabled employees. Companies must also inform disabled employees about their rights to request reasonable accommodations. It should be noted that not all companies must provide reasonable accommodations for disabled employees.
